Selma 50th Anniversary

One of the most eye-opening experiences that I've been through was to attend the 50th Anniversary of  Bloody Sunday in Selma, AL.  I was invited by one of my lodge brothers who knew Mr. Charles Bonner. A survivor of the brutal resistance by Sheriff Jim Clark across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.  I also met with the mayor of Selma at the time along with other dignitaries.  I also had the chance to attend a gala which had a myriad of impactful speakers and leaders.  To many to even list here.

To put the journey into words is extremely hard to do since there was so much history that I was surrounded by and so many stories of survival was shared. The walkup to the bridge and the energy shared was remarkable.  I'm usually very anxious when surrounded by people, but the energy of the crowd and the experience helped me through it.  I also got to see President Obama speak and he was as dynamic as usual.  I was close, but for some reason my camera decided to malfunction.

The main thing I took from the visit was that, no matter what they had to remain non-violent.  Even when beaten, spat on, terrorized, called traitors, and murdered;  they remained non-violent.  This was essential to this movement being a success.  I just wanted to share some of my photos from this journey.
